How this obsession started
We've received a few questions about how we started or what inspires us to make these. If you're interested in knowing those answers...below is a

LOOOOONG story about us and how we started:
My name is Kate and I have an addiction... to ducking. My husband, Dan, has an addiction to making me happy.
Our first cruise was last year and we never heard about cruise ducking until we were already at the airport to leave. We made a pitstop to a Dollar Tree on the way to the cruise terminal and loaded up on ducks, using index cards and a dull borrowed pencil as last minute tags. Dan and I had fun hiding them throughout the cruise....until he hid a Disney duck in an elevator railing....a Princess Belle duck to be exact.....
While on the elevator to our room a little girl entered the elevator with her family. She grabbed the railing as the elevator moved and found the duck Dan had just hidden moments before. Her face lit up and she yelled to her mom "Look! I FINNNALLYYYY found a duck and its Belle!!!!"
We stood silently sharing a smile with each other as she gushed to her family about her newly found treasure the rest of our elevator ride.
As cheesy as it sounds, it was in that moment that I realized that ducking isn't just fun. Ducking for us is knowing that each duck has the potential to brighten someone's day and put a smile on their face, even if you don't see it happen.
I was determined that the next cruise we would be more prepared but also more unique! I saw a poker chip duck but I wanted something more unique...and when our itinerary changed to a Halloween themed cruise...it made me inspired to do Holiday themes, then funny themes... so once I started making them... I never stopped. 2 more cruises in 2025 resulted in 700 ducks being sprinkled on ships.
After those cruises the momentum didn't stop...I still continued to make them constantly trying to come up with new ideas! So with hundreds in inventory and no cruise in sight for 2026, Dan persistently encouraged me to open KulpQuacks. Our shop sat without orders for almost 2 weeks and I became so discouraged I stopped checking on the shop.
Then we received our first order.. and it renewed my hope for our little project. It was solidified when our first customer left us the kindest review. It was the best reminder that the real joy in all of this is in making someone else's day!
After the first order I asked Dan to step in and take over the business side... budgets and logistics are not my strengths😅 He graciously agreed and...I think he secretly enjoys it now! He handles all of the pricing, photography and shipping. We also both work full time as well, Dan is a mechanic and I work as a nurse in a rural ER.
